We all love spending more time with our kids during the holidays, but that does mean we have to entertain them during the time they would normally be in day care. A traditional holiday activity is making gingerbread houses. However, with all the other demands on your time this season, you might not have time to make a full-size gingerbread house from scratch. Luckily, there are plenty of ways you can “cheat” and make it easier for you but still fun for your kids.
Here are three easy ways to make gingerbread houses this holiday season that will save you time so you can focus on having fun with your kids!
Buy a Kit
Buying a gingerbread house kit is definitely the easiest solution. At this time of year, most grocery and big-box stores sell kits that include all the cookie pieces, icing, and decorations you need. Because you don’t have to bake anything, you can get multiple kits and make an entire village’s worth of gingerbread houses!
Use Graham Crackers
If buying a kit seems a little too much like “cheating,” you can compromise by using graham crackers. Graham crackers are the perfect size to build “gingerbread” houses, and because they are easy to break into pieces, you can get creative with your designs. You also have plenty of opportunities to mess up, so don’t worry about making mistakes, and enjoy the experience of building with food!
Make Tiny Houses
The most difficult part of building a gingerbread house is holding the pieces together until the icing sets. We’ve all had the experience of putting together a gingerbread house, thinking the pieces will stick together, only for everything to fall apart when you let go. One way to make this part of the gingerbread house process easier is to make tiny houses. Smaller gingerbread pieces are easier to hold together, especially for kids. Plus, if you make tiny gingerbread houses, you can make a lot more of them.
