One of the most crucial parts of successful special education in Maine, and other regions, is assessing each student thoroughly. By doing so, teachers develop a complete profile to understand a child’s specific needs. As we gain an understanding of how each child grows and learns, we can better help students succeed.
At Watch Me Shine, our teachers develop individualized plans to help each child reach their full potential. We work hard in the classroom. However, the journey doesn’t end when our child leaves us for the day. Instead, by reinforcing classroom concepts at home, you can help your child to flourish further. It is essential that a child’s entire support system – including family and education specialists – remain connected and on the same page.
Below are a few guidelines to help ensure your child receives the most from their education.
Assessing engagements
Communication is one of the primary focuses in our highly recognized Maine special education program. However, it’s crucial to recognized and remember that every child is different. How you communicate with one may not work with another. Often, the use of images or sign language proves to be effective solutions. Engage with your child in a way that works best for them and provides an opportunity to share thoughts and feelings. Be sure to practice exercises learned in the classroom as well. By doing so, you can help your child to progress more quickly.
Reinforcing concepts
Another great habit is practicing classroom activities at home. With a few minutes a day, you can help accelerate your child’s progress. For example, if your child is working on reading skills 30 minutes a day at school, that is roughly 2.5 hours per week. For a mere 15 minutes at home, sitting with your child to reinforce what is being learned provides nearly an extra 2 hours per week! Of course, we recommend all the reading you can handle at home!
Staying on the same page
An overarching theme in finding success here at Watch Me Shine is keeping everyone in the loop. The best way to reinforce classroom ideas and exercises is to handle them, in the same manner, we do here. Our staff strives for a reliable connection with the child and their support system at home. We understand that what works for one family might not work for another, and we want to develop a program to help each child shine.
At Watch Me Shine, we recognize that each child is unique. So, when it concerns special education in Maine, our programs are tailored to meet individual needs.
