Thanksgiving Turkey Treats

One of the best things about these treats is that they don’t require much actual cooking. The only part that you actually have to make yourself is the rice crispy balls. Because making rice crispy treats involves melting butter and marshmallows over the stove, you’ll want to wait to get the kids involved until you’re ready to assemble the turkeys.

What You Need

The whole process is pretty simple and you don’t need very much to make these turkey treats.

  • Butter (or margarine), marshmallows, and rice crispy cereal to make rice crispy balls. This small-batch recipe works great. Though rather than pressing the rice crispy and marshmallow mixture into a pan, you’ll form them into balls.
  • Oreos, or any sandwich cookie. Fudge rings work great, too.
  • Chocolate or vanilla frosting; go with whatever your (or your kids’!) preference is.
  • Candy corn

How to Make Them

Follow the instructions for making rice crispy treats, but don’t press them into a pan to cool. Form them into one-and-a-half-inch balls. For reference, that’s about the size of a ping-pong ball. While you wait for those to cool and set, gently twist open the Oreos, one for each rice crispy ball. Do your best not to break them, but it’s okay if they do. The frosting can hold them together! You can leave the creme on one half of the Oreo or you can scrape it off. Again, it’s up to your preference.

Once the rice crispy balls are cool and firm, spread some frosting on one Oreo half (the creme half if you left it on). Then gently press the rice crispy ball into it. Spread some frosting on the other half of the Oreo and fan three or four pieces of candy corn across the top to make the turkey feathers. Now press that gently onto the “back” of your turkey. Put a little frosting on one more piece of candy corn and put it on the “front” to make the turkey’s head.

And you’re done! Make as many turkeys as you have rice crispies and Oreos for and try not to eat them all before dinner!
