National Children’s Day is celebrated annually on the second Sunday of June, which is June 9th this year. As Bangor child care providers, our team at Watch Me Shine knows that every child is special, but sometimes we need to take a day to celebrate them. Whether you choose the second Sunday of June or another day, it’s good to set aside a day to spend extra time with your child and make them feel special.
National Children’s Day is the perfect opportunity to make your child feel special. Here are some of our favorite ideas for celebrating the day.
Learn About Their Favorite Thing
Many kids have a “thing” that they always want to learn and tell you about. Maybe it’s boats, bugs, cars, dinosaurs, sharks, or something a bit more niche. Whatever it is, you can give your child the best day ever by setting aside an afternoon—or even the whole day—to learn about their favorite thing with them. Get books from the local library or find kid-friendly resources online. Encourage your child to love learning by expressing interest in their favorite subject.
Take a Trip to a Children’s Museum
Another way to encourage your child to love learning is by giving them opportunities to engage in hands-on activities. Children’s museums are the perfect place to learn through play. The Maine Discovery Museum is right here in Bangor and has exhibits about science, nature, music, and so much more. If you’re traveling over the summer, there are several other children’s museums throughout the state.
Share Your Childhood Memories
There are a lot of great things about having kids, and one of them is getting to share and relive memories from your childhood. We all have memories of going to a special place or playing a favorite game, and we want to share those experiences with our kids. Take a day trip to your favorite beach or park, or track down a board game from your childhood. It won’t be exactly the way you remember it—nothing ever is—but it’s an opportunity to create new memories with your kids and family.
